8 years ago on September 11th, my college buddy Jeff signed onto the Army reserves.
3 years later was our first day of college.
2 years later he was taken out of school and sent to Iraq.
3 years later marks the fifth anniversary of September 11th.
It also marks the day Jeff was finally released from the reserves.
How many other days have so many coincidences that go unnoticed? My first day of college, I woke up and turned on the news to the towers being attacked, two hours later was my first photography class. We bonded more than one class might. We were all transplants from across the nation to a new city, a new school and a new life. And this was how we started. I met some amazing people at Brooks, who I truly miss. Jeff was the one that kept the war real for all of us. We would get sporadic emails with a few photos here and there from him, which always made us remember.
I saw Jeff this weekend. We celebrated his release.
But more than anything, events that happened yesterday in my life make me realize how precious life really is. Don’t take it for granted.
Value Life. Value Family. And Value Friends. Live life to the fullest.
I know its cheese, but believe me.
My favorite quote:
“Work like you don’t need the money,
love like you’ve never been hurt,
and dance like no one is watching.”
