A NYC Engagement Session: Kim & Siddharth

Later on Sunday afternoon I was able to meet  Kim and Siddharth. We sat down for a quick chat about all of the places they wanted to shoot at during their engagement session. I loved their ideas, especially since it included all the little things they do together on a day to day basis. Well, as luck would have it as we stepped outside it started to rain!

Plan B included the Time-Warner building, the subway system, grand central station and the Chelsea indoor market. Rain couldnt stop these two from having fun!

Kim and Siddharth: Thanks for trekking out in the rain and daring to sit on the ground in white pants!! See you after the big move!

Right after this photo Bruce Willis walked past us! First Tom Green and now Bruce Willis. Who’s next?

A Manhattan Engagement Session: Shashi & Rob

Last week after our Saturday wedding I had the chance to meet two of my couples from NYC who are getting married in California later on this year. My first session was with Rob and Shashi down in the meatpacking district. I’ve heard many things about this area so I was really excited that Rob researched and found the PERFECT locations. (I promise, if he was based on the west coast I would hire him to do my location scouting. His eye is that great!)

After we had enough of the nitty gritty we shot up to Central Park to get a different variety of photos. It was then that I learned all about Shashi’s company: Quench Bath and Body from Around the World. I’m so excited that she’s been published nationally in just the beginning stages of her company. And she’s just about to expand her line! Busy Busy!

We finished in perfect time… right before the rain started!

Rob and Shashi: thanks for your patience with my crazy schedule this past week! It was great meeting you and Ill see you in September!

mmm, tasty colors…

Happy Birthday to ME!

Matt and I took a lazy, long and windy drive up the coast this weekend. I must  be getting old, all I wanted to do was source props and look for antiques! Sunday was the day of BBQ’s, and the official birthday. My dear mother baked my favorite cake, straight out of box betty crocker white with milk chocolate frosting. YUM!

Matt rocked with presents this year: A Tiffany’s ring and matching necklace. My mother, bless her heart gave  clothes, but this year decided to put together a grab bag of gifts which included a tube of Sensadine toothpaste!!! Icing on the cake!  (really though I had dental work done a month ago and Im still in pain!)

All in all a GREAT  weekend!

Alyssa Taylor has arrived!

Thursday morning was THE most memorable experience of my life. We laughed (thanks to Matt) cried when no one was watching (behind a camera lens) and welcomed beautiful Alyssa Taylor into the world. I swear, I’m not a sap, but right around 10:30 that morning I was! After 28 hours of labor, one of my best friends Ashley was FINALLY ready to give birth. This was after several painful hours of her family and I witnessing some pretty crazy contractions. When I look back on then whole of it all the hardest part for me was seeing her in pain before the epidural. Around 2 am the family and I retreated our separate ways, some to the corner of a waiting room, me to the back of my car. When we finally woke she was ready. (thank goodness!)

I was one of the privileged three in the room. I photographed for the first 10 minutes and then it came to a point where Ashley needed a bit of extra help. Matt and her mother took to the sides and I helped her curl forward. When the midwife said “this will be the last push and she’s here” I went in this mode: Like a stealth photographer (I’m laughing as I write this btw!) I let go of her shoulders for a sec and swooped down to grab the camera off the ground. As I stood up I pushed between her shoulders and started the rapid fire on my camera. I got THE shot. (not posted though… dont want child services coming after me!) My favorite shot from the whole day.

Its funny: the days leading up to her birth EVERYONE was asking me are you sure? Are you sure you want to take part in this and witness a birth? Do I really want to be even more terrified of having kids than I already am? (No joke, the idea scares the heck out of me!) I would not have had it any other way.

Ashley and Matt: I can not thank you enough. Really. I will remember this experience for the rest of my life and will forever be tied to you and your beautiful baby girl. Ashley, I am SOOOOO proud of you, looking back on the whole set of photos I cry again. (my Matt is standing over me chuckling right now) You will be one amazing mother. And Matt: I have no doubt in my mind Alyssa will grow up a comedian. There will always be smiles in the Aldridge-Baker household til the end of time.

She will be loved.

Evan & Lela

This was a day of exploring. We were hoping for beautiful warm spring weather but this day it was cool a bit muddy. That did not stop Evan and Lela from exploring this entire field had to offer. It made crossing the little river even more fun. Evan was so curious to see what was behind every bend in the trail and Lela just went along with whatever Evan was doing. After a game of peek-a-boo and jump..jump..fall (not really a game) the two took a break. For a moment they sat together and Evan gave his little sister a big hug. Which was one of the cutest things ever. It was one of those awwwwe moments. Lela was a little unsure of the whole picture-taking thing but with the guidance of her big brother she ended up having a blast!

A little humor

In light of the recent move… and filling up my fathers monsterously large diesel truck yesterday (ouch!) I thought I would share a little comic:

image016.gif

The move is on…

The next few days Ill be schlepping all of my stuff to my the new diggs in Concord. It’s quite amazing how much stuff I have. Really now! I’ve gone through it all and have tried to purge, but there is so much I cant get rid of! (and I am really not a sentimental person when it comes to personal items… there’s just sooo much office/studio stuff I cant wrap my head around it!)

So with the move Ill have spotty access to email except through my phone. So if you need to get a hold of me please call. Otherwise Ill return to office life on Tuesday afternoon.

And Happy Mothers Day Erica! And to my mom too of course… although she’s not internet savvy at all!picture-1.jpg

Kelly & Ramiro & their beautiful wedding at Hans Fahden

Fun Fact: How they met: Ramiro saw Kelly in a store, and made it a point to visit the store quite often for the littlest things. Kelly secretly thought Ramiro was a shoplifter! Soon after, Kelly got another job and Ramiro was kicking himself for not asking her out sooner. Their paths crossed again years later at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire and the rest is history!

Most Memorable Moments: Their touching vows, her fathers speech, the unscripted first dance and Kelly’s beautiful voice singing to her new husband.

I knew back in February when I photographed Kelly and Ramiro’s engagement that their wedding was going to be a very special one. I can’t put into words the care, devotion, love and passion these two share for each other. Their vows were funny, touching, and memorable. I think every female guest was tearing up at one point, me included! My favorite vow was Ramiro’s: I promise to do the dishes… when its my turn! This one had their guests laughing out loud!

The evening continued with dinner in the cave and dancing by a fabulous salsa band Los Boleros. Thirty seconds into their first dance the music just stopped. Kelly looked stunned and shocked, seconds later this salsa music started playing. Kelly looked at Ramiro, Ramiro looked at Kelly and they started to salsa! It could have been straight out of a movie! (and I’m pretty sure that wasnt planned at all!)

The night ended with a touching solo performance by Kelly singing this amazing song in Spanish. I have no idea of the words, but all I know is Ramiro has married one special lady. I wish you two all the happiness in the world.

All weekend I was trying to figure out who Kelly resembled… I think I got it… “Easy Breezy Beautiful Cover Girl” She has that look doesnt she?

Jewlie, Simon & Lola in the Mission District

Jewlie and Simon are just adorable together! I met them at their cute house in the Mission and we took a walk around the neighborhood. I’ll be honest, I had a goal in mind: I was out the find the Precita eyes mural. In the process we found a whole block chock full of beautiful murals. (If your interested its on Balmy St) Towards the middle of our session we stopped back at their house to pick up their first child: little Lola the chihuahua . Lola was a natural for the camera!

I’m excited to see what they have in store for their wedding in October. Simon has some great ideas for attire… just to find it is another matter! (side note: if anyone knows where to find GOOD suits in the bay area let me know… I’ll pass it along!) Their wedding is at one of my favorite venues in Napa: The Carneros Inn. Jewlie is going to make one beautiful bride!

Shani & Jason: A tour of San Francisco

Sunday started with warm weather and a slight breeze as we walked towards Chrissy Fields. Again, deep in conversation as we passed over a hill our jaws dropped at the massive amount of people on the beach that day. I dont blame them, it was beautiful out! But for someone not so keen on PDA, this was an interesting way to start a session! Not even 10 minutes later Shani and Jason had fallen in love with the camera and PDA was no problem!

We did a quick tour of the Palace since it was under renovation, and then took an even quicker tour of where their first kiss occurred: a little doorway on Fillmore Street.  After a quick change of clothes (which they looked smashing in!) we drove downtown to find some “seedy” alleyways to give a more urban feel to the session.

Throughout the whole day I noticed Shani was an avid walker! Jason mentioned shes always walking at the speed of light so we did a series of walking photos. One of my favorites is posted below with the crazy mural in the background. I really admire Shani: she has this presence, determination and independence about her that makes her just an amazing person! I can see why Jason fell for her!

Their wedding in September is going to be a beautiful, lavish event styled by Sasha and her fabulous team.  The ceremony and reception will take place at Hans Fahden in Calistoga. Make sure to check back!
