Michele & Marc

We had a bit of an adventure last week in San Jose! Michele and Marc wanted to incorporate their little ones into the wedding… somehow! And the engagement session was it. So Diesel and Leland came along for the shoot. Diesel is hands down the largest Rottweiler I’ve ever seen! But hes all love inside, just like little Leland.

Michele and Marc: I had a great time getting to know the family better! See you in September!

She’s so pretty! I cant wait to see Michele in her wedding dress at the new Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery in September.

Maria and Steven: Engagement in Brooklyn.

Fun fact: Maria and Stevens first born is their oh so cute dog Jack. Isn’t the case for most of us dog lovers!!!

Well this was just a fun day. What a treat. Maria and Steven live in Brooklyn. And just wanted to walk around to some of their favorite spots in their neighborhood. An added bonus on this particular day was that a friend of mine, Elizabeth Russell was in town from Portland Oregon. Elizabeth shoots under water photography. One of these days when the stars align I will have a couple that is game to jump into a pool with their wedding entire on and Elizabeth will be on one of her underwater portrait tours and in my neck of the woods. Having Elizabeth there was nice she was able to help me out with the shoot but most importantly we got to hang out and really see Brooklyn together. We did have two fantastic tour guides.. (Three tour guides counting Jack!)

One of the highlights of this shoot was going to this fantastic Cuban restaurant close to where Steven and Maria live. Walking to the restaurant, Brooklyn looked like Brooklyn. Brown buildings, paved roads, unique people, until we rounded a corner and you heard the music. As you rounded the corner you were blasted with color, which hit you like a ton of bricks. I just thought it was the coolest little neighborhood restaurant I had ever seen. Maria and Steven ordered frozen Mojito’s, they looked so good and frosty. They are one of those couples that you can just hang out with. If I didn’t have another shoot that day I think we all would have just hung out, took pictures, and had a few drinks together. Next time!!!

As for their wedding it will be taking place in Connecticut at the Cobbs Mill Inn. I am very excited to photograph the two of them on their wedding day. Stay tuned!!

Jack.

A NYC Engagement Session: Kim & Siddharth

Later on Sunday afternoon I was able to meet  Kim and Siddharth. We sat down for a quick chat about all of the places they wanted to shoot at during their engagement session. I loved their ideas, especially since it included all the little things they do together on a day to day basis. Well, as luck would have it as we stepped outside it started to rain!

Plan B included the Time-Warner building, the subway system, grand central station and the Chelsea indoor market. Rain couldnt stop these two from having fun!

Kim and Siddharth: Thanks for trekking out in the rain and daring to sit on the ground in white pants!! See you after the big move!

Right after this photo Bruce Willis walked past us! First Tom Green and now Bruce Willis. Who’s next?

A Manhattan Engagement Session: Shashi & Rob

Last week after our Saturday wedding I had the chance to meet two of my couples from NYC who are getting married in California later on this year. My first session was with Rob and Shashi down in the meatpacking district. I’ve heard many things about this area so I was really excited that Rob researched and found the PERFECT locations. (I promise, if he was based on the west coast I would hire him to do my location scouting. His eye is that great!)

After we had enough of the nitty gritty we shot up to Central Park to get a different variety of photos. It was then that I learned all about Shashi’s company: Quench Bath and Body from Around the World. I’m so excited that she’s been published nationally in just the beginning stages of her company. And she’s just about to expand her line! Busy Busy!

We finished in perfect time… right before the rain started!

Rob and Shashi: thanks for your patience with my crazy schedule this past week! It was great meeting you and Ill see you in September!

mmm, tasty colors…

Jewlie, Simon & Lola in the Mission District

Jewlie and Simon are just adorable together! I met them at their cute house in the Mission and we took a walk around the neighborhood. I’ll be honest, I had a goal in mind: I was out the find the Precita eyes mural. In the process we found a whole block chock full of beautiful murals. (If your interested its on Balmy St) Towards the middle of our session we stopped back at their house to pick up their first child: little Lola the chihuahua . Lola was a natural for the camera!

I’m excited to see what they have in store for their wedding in October. Simon has some great ideas for attire… just to find it is another matter! (side note: if anyone knows where to find GOOD suits in the bay area let me know… I’ll pass it along!) Their wedding is at one of my favorite venues in Napa: The Carneros Inn. Jewlie is going to make one beautiful bride!

Shani & Jason: A tour of San Francisco

Sunday started with warm weather and a slight breeze as we walked towards Chrissy Fields. Again, deep in conversation as we passed over a hill our jaws dropped at the massive amount of people on the beach that day. I dont blame them, it was beautiful out! But for someone not so keen on PDA, this was an interesting way to start a session! Not even 10 minutes later Shani and Jason had fallen in love with the camera and PDA was no problem!

We did a quick tour of the Palace since it was under renovation, and then took an even quicker tour of where their first kiss occurred: a little doorway on Fillmore Street.  After a quick change of clothes (which they looked smashing in!) we drove downtown to find some “seedy” alleyways to give a more urban feel to the session.

Throughout the whole day I noticed Shani was an avid walker! Jason mentioned shes always walking at the speed of light so we did a series of walking photos. One of my favorites is posted below with the crazy mural in the background. I really admire Shani: she has this presence, determination and independence about her that makes her just an amazing person! I can see why Jason fell for her!

Their wedding in September is going to be a beautiful, lavish event styled by Sasha and her fabulous team.  The ceremony and reception will take place at Hans Fahden in Calistoga. Make sure to check back!

Mara & Michael in Nob Hill

Saturday night I met Michael and Mara at Grace Cathedral in Nob Hill. Until recently Mara lived just across the street from the church, so this area is very close to her heart. We had a big agenda for the night: 3 locations in two hours! So we quickly left Nob Hill and drove towards the Palace of Fine Arts. After parking the car we were so deep in conversation that we didnt realize the whole building was under renovation! Scaffolding and all! A little disappointing but we made the best of a bad situation and found small spots that were not covered in steel and wood planks. And luckily for us we found some trees that had a cherry blossom feel that were still in bloom. (Mara & Michael both expressed in our first meeting how nice it would be to find some cherry blossoms… so when they all bloomed over a month ago I was crossing my fingers to find some trees still in bloom!)

Our last location was at the Marin Headlands, where Michael proposed to Mara. In the time we waited for the tourists to subside I asked Michael if he had ever explored past this point in the road. Neither of us had. So I did what any photographer would do when we still had sunset light… I went exploring (thanks for letting me guys!) We ended up on a one way windy road thinking we would be on it forever! But we found some old forts and beautiful rolling hills. I’m glad we did, some of my favorite photos were at the end!

Check back in August for Mara and Michaels wedding. Its at this adorable church on the peninsula…. straight out of a movie!

Inna & Jay in North Beach

The start of the marathon e session weekend was Inna and Jay in North Beach… and boy was it hot! A nice change from last week! We explored where they had their first date ( Savoy -Tivoli ) and then decided to stop off for some ice cream to cool off. We ended up in the alleyway of Vesuvios enjoying our ice cream. In the midst of me stalking them with my camera I noticed their attention turned past me… I look down the alley to see Tom Green chasing after a pigeon! I was completely star struck while Inna and Jay were soooo laid back and cool. (I had this crush on Tom Green YEARS ago so to see him in person was pretty cool!) He “saved” aka bought a pigeon in china town for $6. The poor birds wings were clipped so he couldnt fly! Read more about it on his blog. He’s should be uploading a video soon!

After I recovered from my giddiness we took a quick trip up the hill a found this awesome ivy door! I think one of my favs from the whole session is Inna leaning in the doorway. Check back in August for Jay and Inna’s wedding at Ruby Hill.

A San Francisco Engagement Session: Jen and John

Wow. All I have to say is they were TROOPERS! Remember last Saturday and how blistery cold and windy it was???!!! Yep, thats when our session was! John did a good job of keeping Jen toasty warm throughout and we managed to make it through without any frost bite. (I know you east coasters are reading this and laughing!)

Jen had always heard about a place called Macondray Lane in SF, so of course we decided to explore it a bit. Think of Macondray like the secret garden meets the city: all grown over, yet still urban. Afterwards we made a point to stop at the Embarcadero buildings since this is where they met! After a quick change of clothes we headed over to the ferry building. WAY to windy… so we ducked inside for a few last shots before calling it quits to the elements!

I’m super excited for their wedding in June at Cornerstone. Not only is Cornerstone just too cool to explain (see website!) Jen has thought of so many special touches for her guests I cant wait to see how they will all be incorporated!

Jaya and Chris: A Mill Valley Engagement Session

On Sunday afternoon I took a trip up to Mill Valley to photograph Jaya and Chris’s engagement photos. It was so nice seeing Jaya again… she’s actually the sister of one of my former brides Jennifer who married back in 2006. Her sister was sweet enough to give the session as a gift since their photographer is based out of Arizona. The ceremony will take place overlooking the Grand Canyon where Chris proposed to her. How romantic!!

We explored the nooks an crannies of Mill Valley, and even found an old movie theater, which is fitting since Chris is a director. We then drove over to Tennessee Valley and took a hike to the beach. Jaya and Chris love hiking so we made it a point to go to one of their favorite spots.

Jaya you are going to look beautiful in a wedding dress!! Have an amazing wedding in September!
