Out of the office til March!

Yep, I’m the crazy one taking a two week vacation in the dead of winter to go to the East Coast! I know I know! But since summers are booked up with weddings the off season is the time to travel for me. Starting Saturday February 13 I will be out of town. I return late on the 26th but will be prepping for the Modern Bridal Wedding Fair on Sunday. If you are around and have thought about doing an intimates session for your fiance or special someone this is a great way to meet me in person and look at albums before booking a session. On Monday March 1st Ill be back in the office replying to emails normally.

So where am I going? Why could I possibly want to spend two weeks in frigid cold temps? Its the people! And Fausnaught day!

Yes, that does sound like my last name. Fausnaught was the original spelling of Fosnight before we came over on the boat and they changed it on Ellis Island. So when the Fausnaught’s settled in Pennsylvania and lent came around they decided to make donuts out of all of the butter eggs and fat they would otherwise waste during lent. Leave it my ancestors to make donuts!

And funny enough my late best friends family is from PA where Fausnaughts originate. So thats my first stop.

Then its off to Erica’s neck of the woods! Its been way too long since I’ve seen that girl and I think I’ve gone through Mancini with drawls. (if you know their family you know what I’m talking about!)

So wish me luck. California girl treks into East Coast Blizzard. Stay tuned.

The Grand Opening Party!

This past Saturday I had a little grand opening / holiday party all wrapped into one! There was a photo booth complete with reindeer ears and Santa hats. To see the the photos visit my Facebook page here. To become a fan of Adeline & Grace Photography on Facebook click here.

I’m happy to announce that 15+  toys were donated from guests to Toys for Tots that night. Ren Robinson, the incredibly awesome person that painted the studios 20 foot walls won the iPod Shuffle! The turnout was awesome and I cant thank everyone enough for all of their love and support! This has been one heck of a crazy year and I thank everyone who was there for me through the thick of it. I say this every year but it bears worth repeating. I have the best clients ever!! EVER. You make my job not a job and you sometimes laugh at my corny jokes. Sometimes. ;)

Click on the photo below to be taken to the rest of the photo booth photos!

San Francisco Food Photography | Tastefull Bites Cupcakes

In a land far far away (San Francisco) and long ago (6 years!) I wanted to photograph food. Some of you may know the beginning story of it all, if not… here goes!

I went to photography school having NO IDEA what I wanted to do. The nice thing about where I went to school is the very first year is a mish mash of subjects to whet your pallet of the world of photography. I was a year into school and still had no idea what I wanted to do. Until 311… the commercial advertising class. Every week we had a different assignment: photograph an accessory, shoot a model, car, and then one week it was food.  My work was noticeably different then everyone else’s… in a good way. My best friend Kim told me after class that I had found what I should do… I should be a food photographer. And that was that. I was THAT mold-able!  That was the plan. I was going to be a food photographer.

Fast forward a few years: I was working for a food photographer in SF. It just wasnt working for me… food photography wasnt very sociable and it was a big production for just a few shots a day. Hours on ONE photo. While I LOVED food photography and appreciate everything that goes into a shot… I just needed something more. And thats how Adeline & Grace was started. But more on that in another post. ;)

So now I get my food photography “fix” at weddings. Guests look at me like Im crazy for photographing the food but I kindly explain that the couple will have no remembrance of eating it ;) That usually works!

So when Jennifer of Tastefull Bites (website coming soon, now that there are photos!) asked me to photograph some cupcakes for her new business I was happy to oblige! If you are my friend on facebook you know that I have a soft spot for cupcakes. Well anything sugar really but a huge soft spot for cupcakes. So of course I tasted all of these. YUM! Whats so different about Jenn’s mini cupcakes is they are savory and sweet and filled.

So if you are looking for something sweet for your holiday party just ask me for her contact info!

November Print Sales Will go to Charity

Give the gift of photography and donate to charity at the same time!

Last year I was inspired by Anna Kuperberg, a local bay area photographer who donated her November print sales to charity. So for the month of November 2009 70% of print and canvas sales for Adeline & Grace West will go to two charities. The two charities I selected are close to my heart:

One of my sweetest clients this year, Michael Irvine, volunteers at Childrens Cancer Community of Sonoma. He does a fundraiser, walk, charity event, auction, etc nearly every weekend and his tireless efforts help children and their families living with cancer.  This local charity helps make kids lives better one step at a time with no charge to the families in need. 50% of my print sales will go to this local charity. More information can be found below about this charity.

As some of you may know one of my best friends passed away this past September from a brain aneurysm. The remaining 20% of my print sales will be donated to The Brain Aneurysm Foundation. Its my hope that money donated will aid in research that will save lives or raise awareness. More information can be found below about this charity.

Marita!

She reads my mind at weddings, she wrangles 20 people family portraits together like she does it everyday. She keeps me and my office sane and working throughout the week. She edits, she files, she backs up weddings, and revises albums. She finishes my sentences and makes sure I have my nightly glass of coca-cola at the end of every wedding when Im tired and needing it most.

I am her biggest fan. THANK YOU for keeping my business in check this year. I could not have done it with out you. Many of you may have met Marita at your wedding this year, as she is also one of my trusted and fabulous second shooters.

If you would like to see a snippet of what Marita shoots, check out her blog-site. She takes environmental lifestyle children’s portraiture. What does that mean? She hangs out with kids in their environment and captures kids at what they do best… having fun and playing around. Looking for family portraits for the holidays? She’s your girl!!!

Happy early birthday hun! And thanks again!

This is my favorite photos thats she took this summer. Makes me laugh! It just goes to show that kids dont have to be all dressed up to have an awesome photo/moment captured.

Yep. Matt and I couldnt resist. Pumpkin is the miserable one on the left and Diego is the terrified one on the right. I love this photo more than you know!! To see the whole gallery and friend me on facebook please click here. Have a wonderful weekend… I have two weddings with two rockin couples!

In loving memory, Deacon Bob Little

Earlier today I learned that the wedding community lost one of their own. Deacon Bob Little passed away yesterday as a result of a motor accident. It was not two days ago that I saw him when he gave blessings to the marriage of Nathan and Louisa. He touched many lives throughout his life and united countless couples. He was a kind, caring and compassionate man that will be truly missed and my heart goes out to his family.  In loving memory to such a gracious man…

Happy Fouth of July

The past few days Matt’s brother and girlfriend were in town. We spent a few days camping up in Humboldt and then came back to spend fourth of July in San Francisco. After eating a DELICIOUS dinner at Sotto Mare in North Beach we walked outside and were greeted with fireworks in an alleyway. What a sight:fouthofjulysanfrancisco

Ill be replying to all my emails tomorrow!

Little Goslings

The past three weeks Matt and I have been watching the nest of the resident momma goose. (Matt has affectionately named her Helen) The eggs finally hatched today! So far we can count 4… but we think there is another hiding in the very front of the nest. Too cute!

Update: May 2nd. It looks like 2 eggs didnt hatch and mamma goose has abandoned the nest to start a new one across the pond. So sad. But the four little ones are too cute. Its crazy to watch instinct take over between the mother goose and the father goose. The dad hung around and gaurded the nest from afar  before the eggs hatched. Any other duck that got too close to their nest would have heck to pay for! Honking and feathers flying everywhere. (thank goodness for my 70-200 lens!) Dad goose didnt really pay any big attention to the actual nest before they hatched but was watching over very proud the day they were born (above photo) Now whereever they travel the babies are in the middle of both of them. And they are even more protective than ever!
